Kjell Karlsson
Printing TLDR is built and run by Kjell Karlsson, a print industry professional with 30+ years in large format printing and 10+ years focused on DTF workflows. The background is in ink chemistry and early technology adoption — including DTF experimentation at Marabu in 2012, predating commercial DTF printers.
The editorial voice comes from production reality, not marketing departments. Every article, guide, and tool is filtered through a simple question: does this actually help someone running a print shop make a better decision?
Kjell founded the Large Format Printing Community in 2009 and later launched Printing TLDR to deliver focused, practical intelligence for print professionals without the vendor noise that fills much of the industry. Weekly industry observations are published on LinkedIn — follow there for the ongoing work.

How Printing TLDR came to be.
From decades of production experience to a focused intelligence and tools platform for modern print professionals.
Founded the Large Format Printing Community
Established an early peer knowledge network for large format print professionals focused on production reality over vendor marketing.
Early DTF experimentation at Marabu
Collaborated with Vegard Flatjord on early Direct-to-Film printing techniques — predating commercial DTF printers and building foundational ink chemistry knowledge still underpinning Printing TLDR’s DTF content.
Expanded into structured industry analysis
Broadened coverage to include equipment comparisons, workflow analysis, and production cost thinking — always from an operator-first perspective.
Launched Printing TLDR
Launched Printing TLDR as a dedicated intelligence platform — focused, vendor-neutral, and built for print professionals who value signal over noise.
AI-powered guides and DTF automation resources
Developed AI-assisted workflow tools, DTF troubleshooting resources, and production calculators targeting real shop-floor decisions.
Dual-property platform structure
Positioned printingtldr.com as the main content and ebook hub and printingtldr.tools as the tools, calculators, and Pro membership platform. Published the DTF Printing Profit Blueprint — 122 pages of production-grounded pricing and margin guidance.
What Printing TLDR stands for.
Accuracy, clarity, and operational usefulness matter more than traffic, hype, or vendor-friendly language.
Production-grounded
Content is written through the lens of actual print operations — not theoretical ideas or brochure claims. If it doesn’t affect margin, workflow, or repeatability, it doesn’t make the cut.
Vendor-neutral
Coverage is based on operational relevance, not advertising relationships or supplier influence. No sponsored content. No vendor-first framing.
Operator-first
Written for print professionals who care about repeatability, waste, time, cost, and production reality. Not for press release consumers or industry watchers.
Practical by design
The goal is not more content. The goal is better decisions before production problems become expensive. Every piece has to answer: what should a print shop do with this?
Real insights. Zero hype.
